Dr. Colin Brown Head of School

Dr. Colin Brown joined AST in July, 2020. He has almost 25 years in the education field and has held administrative positions or taught in Canada, China, Guatemala, Hungary and Vietnam. Prior to coming to AST, Dr. Brown spent 6 years as the Director at an international school in the Dominican Republic. He has had a few educational articles published and has led many workshops for teachers and administrators on new initiatives in education. Further, he has served on CIS/WASC/NEASC accreditation visits and has led or served on numerous Cognia/AdvancED accreditation visits worldwide. Dr. Brown is passionate about continuing to support and guide AST towards academic excellence. His wife, Laura, who teaches third grade, and his two daughters are pleased to be a part of AST's warm community. Dr. Brown's family is truly international as he is Canadian, Laura is Australian, Keira was born in China and Maya was born in Guatemala. ​

​Mrs. Annie Tung Assistant Director/Elementary Principal

Ms. Annie Tung is a proud alumnus of the American School in Taichung. She returned to AST after living and teaching in the United States for over ten years, where she taught in both public and private schools in Northern and Southern California. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of California, and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Education from the University of California, Irvine. In 2016, she received her administrative credential from the States of Washington. Throughout her years as an educator, Ms. Tung has held a variety of leadership positions, including Elementary School Coordinator, Summer Camp Director, and chair of the Professional Development Committee. She also piloted Mandarin Immersion programs and taught for several years as a classroom teacher. She has presented at TESOL International Conventions and Rotary Clubs. Ms. Tung is passionate about her students and fostering Excellence, Integrity, and Responsibility at AST. She is a wife, mother, and swimmer. Last year Annie swam across Sun Moon Lake and participated in several triathlon relay events with her husband, Joey. She enjoys being on adventures and continues to find joy along the way!

Mr. James Mattiace Secondary Principal

Mr. Mattiace is originally from New York, but lived and taught social sciences in Oregon before moving to Morocco and then Panama. He was most recently the high school Assistant Principal at the International School of Panama where he created major new initiatives in assessment reform, led the change to restorative discipline, and worked with the student leadership to build a more inclusive campus. He has served on three CIS/MSA accreditation teams, and was the internal coordinator at the Rabat American School.  Mr. Mattiace has degrees from Siena College and the University of Oregon, and is licensed as an administrator by the District of Colombia.  He speaks fluent Spanish, French, and Arabic and is learning to play the saxophone and speak Mandarin. He is excited to continue fostering global citizens at AST.

Mrs. Vickie Swann Director of Teaching and Learning

With almost 20 years of experience in the field of education, Mrs. Vickie Swann joins the AST team with experience as an elementary and middle school science teacher, curriculum director, and principal. She has developed an exceptional background in curriculum and instruction through her diverse professional experiences that include hosting and presenting international professional development workshops and conferences, being a member on on-site accreditation teams with Cognia/AdvancEd and MMGW, and as an expert panelist for the Teacher Leader Institute. Vickie has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary and Middle School Education and a Masters of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Montevallo. She is a proud Alabama native, and has lived and taught in Vietnam, Hungary, and most recently, Panama.  She is a certified yoga instructor, enjoys photography and hiking, and is learning the saxophone. ​

Mr. Ethan Dombkowski Secondary Coordinator

Mr. Ethan Dombkowski has been passionately teaching for the past 14 years, three of which have been at AST and the rest in Florida, USA.  He will begin his fourth year at AST teaching 8th grade, 11th grade and AP  Social Studies courses, as well as fulfilling the role as Secondary Coordinator.  He is a fervent lifelong learner, currently working on his Masters of Educational Leadership degree; and enjoys surfing, skateboarding and pretty much every sport.  He is a proud father of 2 amazing boys and the lucky husband of Ximena Dombkowski who also teaches at AST.
